Cabernet Franc is a magnificent Bordeaux and Loire Valley grape, often blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as in great Bordeaux wines. On its own yields a medium bodied wine that can have great complexity and depth.
One of six wines permitted in Bordeaux blends. A cousin to Cabernet Sauvignon, it is one of the more winter hardy of the vinifera. It can be a vigorous variety with mid season budding and late ripening. Flavor profile is fruity and vegetal.
