As one harvest ends, another begins

We made it through another growing season, and what a season it was! This year, we hand-picked 6,000 pounds of fruit from 16 different grape varieties—everything from small 9-pound harvests to big 1,500-pound days. The diversity of our vineyard really kept things interesting!

Weather-wise, Mother Nature threw us some curveballs. June brought a heat wave that had us sweating and helped push some varieties to begin veraison 10 days ahead of schedule. July rolled in with rain and humidity, just to keep us on our toes. Luckily, cooler nights in August and September helped balance things out, and by the time September and October came around, things stayed pretty dry, which made for a smooth harvest. As of today (October 24), we’re still frost-free, giving us a little extra breathing room and a chance to catch up on some much needed vineyard maintenance!

Now that the grapes are off the vines, it’s time to switch gears and focus on the nursery harvest. We’ve got over 200,000 young vines to bring in, with more than 200 varieties, clones, and rootstock combos in the mix. These little guys are the future of vineyards everywhere, and we can’t wait to see how they turn out.

As we close out the 2024 season, we’re feeling grateful for the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Keep an eye out for more updates from the nursery—we’ve got plenty of exciting things coming up!
