Viticulture Characteristics

Large, thin-skinned berries in loose clusters. Tends to bud earlier in the season, but ripens approximately two weeks earlier than Cabernet Sauvignon. Downy mildew can be problematic, but less prone to powdery than other red Bordeaux varieties

Wine Characteristics

Plum and black cherry are key characteristics but overall flavor will be dependent on style and location. Medium bodied with soft tannins and acid. Generally used as a blending grape in Bordeaux but can be done as a single varietal wine.
